SUMMARY:HSI Instructor Development Course (IDC)
DESCRIPTION:The HSI Instructor Development Course (IDC) is a blended online and in‑person program that prepares individuals to become authorized instructors to HSI’s emergency care training programs. \nCourse Overview \nThe IDC is designed for people without prior instructor training who want to teach and certify participants in HSI’s CPR\, AED\, and first aid programs. It uses a blended learning approach: \n\nOnline portion: 2–3 hours of self‑directed learning to build cognitive understanding.\nIn‑person portion: 5–6 hours of instructor‑led skills practice and teaching demonstrations\n\nPrerequisites \n\nCurrent\, valid student-level certification in the training program the candidate wishes to teach and/or at minimum\, competent demonstration of student-level skills for:\n\nAdult\, Child\, Infant One-Provider CPR AED\nAdult First Aid – Severe\, Life-Threatening External Bleeding\nAdult First Aid – Severe Allergic Reaction\n\n\nThe recommended minimum age to undertake an IDC is seven-teen (17).\nFor ICs who intend to train healthcare professionals\, medical knowledge and experience is strongly recommended.\nICs must demonstrate a strong cognitive grasp of the subject matter they wish to teach and be able to proficiently demonstrate all skills taught in the student-level program\n\nInstructor authorization and successful completion \nTo be eligible for authorization\, an Instructor Candidate (IC) must complete the online portion of the IDC with a passing score on the exam\, perform all required face-to-face teach backs\, and successfully complete the instructional skill Performance Evaluation. \nSuccessful completion of the IDC by itself does not authorize an IC to conduct HSI training programs and issue certification cards. Upon successful completion of the IDC\, candidates must affiliate with a Training Center and submit an instructor application to finalize instructor authorization.
